This course is designed to enhance students’ reading and writing skills, allowing them to form a good habit in language learning. Students will be trained to use vocabulary properly, apply reading comprehension strategies, and express their thoughts in a coherent way. They will surely find joy in writing Chinese during the course.
Effective Reading
- Develop the habit of reading Chinese
- Improve comprehension skills for reading modern Chinese texts

Writing Enhancement
- Improve the writing process
- Learn to write descriptive essays (e.g. animals, sceneries, people)
- Learn to write expository essays (e.g. science, nature, game, food)
- Learn to write argumentative essays (e.g. society, current issues, goals in life)
Vocabulary Learning & Application
- Learn & apply a variety of Chinese idioms
- Learn different types of verbs & adjectives
- Compare & contrast dialects with Putonghua
- Study & accumulate extensive vocabulary
Pre-secondary School Chinese Learning
- Study classical Chinese
- Learn about Chinese culture & the history of Chinese characters
- Study idioms that will appear frequently in the syllabus of secondary school
- Further enhance the writing process
